Holiday Gift Giving - Exercise DVDs Can Get Friends and Family on the Road to Better Health

(11/26/07) Instead of sedentary gifts, think of giving your loved ones something to get them thinner and healthier. Most people are embarrassed to exercise in public, so an at-home exercise video may be just the perfect gift.

November 26, 2007 -- Notice how the top selling gifts prompt a sedentary lifestyle? Flat screen TVs, iPods, and the Nitendo Wii video games can hardly stay on the shelves, but one year from now, your recipient won't necessarily be thinner nor healthier.

O.K., so you want to give the gift of health but you don't want to give a gym membership, because not everyone has the time or inclination to go to a gym.

But what if you could give a means for a newcomer to exercise in the privacy of their own home, on their own schedule, rain or shine, and not be intimidated by a svelte bodies?

The Lotte Berk Method home video (above) features 3 teachers in each segment. The one on the right displays modified positions for beginners while the one on the left shows advanced movements. Most people will follow the narrator in the front.
The Lotte Berk Method, developers a highly successful studio exercise for the women of New York, is also available on home DVD.

But in 2003 Ms. Lydia Bach, the founder of the Lotte Berk Method wanted to make the exercise more available to women outside the region.

"Making a home video was a challenge at first because in the studio, some of our exercises are performed with a ballet bar attached to the wall. So we created ways for women to perform the exercises at home using ordinary household furniture", said Ms. Bach.

The whole concept behind the Lotte Berk Method is that it is a total body workout with an emphasis on sculpting the body into long lean muscles, that classic dancers look.
The core (those muscles around the midsection) is strengthened to give better posture, holding the tummy in and keep the spine straight. "This is not only healthier, but you stand taller and look fantastic," added Bach.

Most of all, the exercises are injury free. The movements have their founding in orthopedic exercise. It was actually originally developed to rehabilitate back injuries.

There are four DVDs in all, each focusing on different areas of women's fitness. With each segment, there are 3 teachers on screen, one for the average student, one for the beginner and one for the advanced. So students can keep on advancing for years.
