Press Release:
December 11, 2006 Reston VA --
At the annual meeting of Curves put on by corporate this past October, the franchisees collaborated to form their own national association. This is addition to the several regional co-ops that have formed over the years.
The mission of the association is to formalize camaraderie and networking among Curves franchisees and to establish a direct, two-way venue for communication with Curves International.
The group will function primarily as a virtual organization and will be a nonprofit company representing all 10,000 Curves franchisees.
The association held its first annual meeting in late October during the Curves International annual convention in Las Vegas. At the convention the association's executive board members elected officers for the organization, and the executive board and officers were presented to the franchisees.
Melanie Schaengold, Owner of Curves of Arlington and Reston Virginia and Vice President of the Mid-Atlantic Curves Co-op, was elected president of the association.
Franchisees will determine the priorities of the association at each annual meeting. Curves International President Mike Raymond says he supports the formation of the group.
"We are looking forward to a continuing dialogue with [the association's] executive board on ways to build our brand and our network to help women around the world lead healthier, more productive lives," he says.
