But Will You Keep It - Expert Advice On Actually Achieving Your New Year Resolutions
|
|

(12/29/06) Weight-loss tops the list of 2007 New Year's resolutions. It's number one with women and number two with men. Ironically number one with men is "being a better person". Motivation expert, Donna Krech, offers sound advice on how to overcome motivation assassinators that prevent 85% of the population from achieving their resolutions.

December 29, 2006 Lima, OH -- It happens every year just like clockwork. Fitness centers call it "the January effect". That's when hordes of people who normally don't exercise, suddenly start flooding the gyms. It's their first attempt to fulfill their New Year's resolution, which for most, is to lose weight and get healthy.
The epilogue to the January effect is the "February bail-out". This is when all good intentions fall by the wayside and weight loss and fitness are tabled until next January 1st.
Weight Loss Tops the Resolution List
A local poll conducted by Marist College's Institute of Public Opinion in conjunction with the local WNBC-TV, found that losing weight was at the top of the list when people were asked about their 2007 New Year's resolutions.
However, there were slight gender differences. 20% of the women polled opted for losing weight as their primary resolution, followed by smoking cessation at 14%. Men chose being a "better person" (18%) followed by losing weight (13%).
If this year follows the same historical pattern, a startling 85% will not keep those resolutions. Can anything be done differently?
Finally, a Way To Break The Vicious Cycle
According to weight loss and motivation guru, Donna Krech, 98% of us will be making resolutions this New Year, but 85%, with all best intentions, will not keep those resolutions
According to Krech, this does not have to happen, "You can finally achieve your goals by identifying and eliminating what prevents you from keeping your resolutions," says Krech.
After years of research and analysis, Krech concluded that most people are fairly well-trained at goal setting and prioritizing, however, there is an unforeseen element that blocks the achievement of our resolutions.
She has distilled it down to 7 reasons why we don't keep our resolutions. Typically, people are impacted by one of these reasons, and it's a different reason for each of us. She calls them the "motivation assassinators" and they are:
- Getting distracted
- Doubting oneself or the system
- Monotonous routine
- Depression, Anger or Worry
- Exhaustion
- Negative Social Circle
- Being Too Busy
Before implementing a cure, one has to first identify just which of these seven are paramount in one's life.
Krech has developed an online program to empower people to first identify and then overcome their particular barrier and then go on to achieve their goals. The program is called "Resolution Solution".
Krech is no stranger to weight loss. She has managed a chain of women-only fitness clubs in the past, and has solved her own overweight problem by taking herself from a dress size 12 to a size 2. She used that experience to formulate the "Thin & Healthy" weight loss program whose basic premise is not about food but about motivation.
